Weekend Reads #111

Friday, December 27, 2019

Ah, the beauty of remembering AND having the time to hit Publish on Fridays! I wish I were able to devote more time to this piece of the Web. I often feel guilty to failing to do the most basic of things, curating interesting reads for you. This does take more time than writing things from scratch! (Though don't underestimate the amount of things I read on a weekly basis—only a small percentage ends up here!) As always, I want to promise myself I would do better next year, but this time, with a full time job and hobbies and social life, I really can't. But I can try at least. Also, I'd love an input from you. What do you want to read? I was thinking of travel, as always, but also introducing bits and bobs regarding financial literacy and managing finance, as this is something I've grown to be passionate about. Would that be of interest to you? Hit me up here or on Twitter or wherever you can find me :) And since this is the last time I'm talking to you in 2019, well, have a good time for the New Year's Eve! :)

Weekend Reads #110

I have an image of the White Rabbit in my head, holding a clock and yelling how late he is... Another skipped Friday! I'm pretty sure I published a link some time ago—a year and a half, perhaps—about a different way to clean your house. The article praised cleaning on Friday nights so you get to have a clean and beautiful home during the weekend, and you don't have to start your Saturday with rags and detergents. I was a convert immediately! But since I'm at my new job with a different work schedule, I do that on Fridays before work. Meaning—if I don't post Weekend Reads on Friday, it's probably because I'm cleaning or scrubbing something. How do you find the idea of cleaning before the weekend? Let me know.... And now, as always, enjoy the links below, and the weekend, of course.

Weekend Reads #109

Here goes! I was supposed to start this edition with "hello from the wonderful Berlin", but I just—pardon this excuse—didn't feel like it. The post was ready, but the night before my backpack got stolen. It wouldn't have been such an issue if it hadn't contained my wallet together with all my money (I know, I know, I usually don't carry all my cash around, but this time it happened), my ID, my health insurance card, all bank cards... then a hand cream that cost half as much in Berlin as it does here at home (that still pisses me off), gloves, liquid lipstick my sister gave me for my birthday, mini mascara, my favorite Prada sunglasses that I saved up for, and let's not forget my PASSPORT with my American visa that was valid for seven more years, that I never used so far, that I was looking forward to using next spring, and that I have to apply for again... paying money, again, and being at risk of being denied, or being given a visa of two months or six months or whatever. Now you may see why I wasn't so keen on being merry happy and announcing weekend.

It is what it is, though, and even though I was hoping that whoever got my bag was happy enough with the cash and sunnies and would leave the bag somewhere for someone to find it, it hasn't happened. I am slowly starting all the processes of obtaining my new documents. It is such a pain in the ass, and heartache, because I had developed a detailed savings plan for my spring break in the States and literally every euro mattered and now I'm dealing with a huge setback both financially (stolen money + money for the new passport & the visa) and logistically (what if I'm denied the visa??). Wish me luck!

Anyway, as I've pretty much recovered, mentally at least, here are some Weekend Reads for you...

Weekend Reads #108

Friday, November 8, 2019

Hello lovely people! Great to see another Friday! This one not only marks the beginning of the weekend but my vacation as well—I'm flying to Berlin on Sunday and will stay for a week. Only if you're here for the first time or have never seen my musings anywhere online can you not know how much I love the city and how much at home I feel there. Sure, the weather will be shit, but I'm so happy nevertheless. Wish me occasional rays of sunshine! Anyway, here's what you came here for :)

Weekend Reads #107

Saturday, November 2, 2019

Hi! I'm obviously in that place again where I cannot manage to publish weekend reads on Fridays. Oh, well. Maybe you too have something better to do on Friday than reading on the computer? Or a phone... I had to mention phones for the sake of being inclusive of all devices visiting this blog, though I find phones to be such a hassle in this regard. Almost everything that I do online is done on my laptop, and it rarely even includes a desk :) Hope you have a lovely weekend wherever you are! (And whatever device you use to read this!) Here are the links to some interesting reads.

Weekend Reads #106

Sunday, October 27, 2019

Friday afternoon I realized I had failed to post this weekend's reads, and yesterday, well, let me just tell you this is likely to be the last pleasant weekend this year and this season (weather-wise, of course) and I took advantage of that, putting this corner of the Internet aside. Sorry! But I'll also understand if I get zero clicks, because today you're the one being out and about and enjoying the sun. And in case you want to stay here, here's what I have for you...

Weekend Reads #105

Saturday, October 19, 2019

Hello, lovely people! How's it going? I couldn't wait for the weekend and I'm off for brunch now, followed by the exhibition by Marina Abramović. Lemme take a moment and thank the universe for the job I have now, because I get to have two days off, unlike when I was freelancing! Anyway, enough about me... here are the links I prepared for you this week. Hope you enjoy them!

Weekend Reads #104

Friday, October 11, 2019

I remember being eight years old and telling my Mom how strange it is that I look at photos of myself as a baby and I'm ALREADY EIGHT. She said yes, but imagine looking at those photos when you're twenty! That seemed like a distant future back then, but she also told me that the older you get, the faster the time goes by, and said that, for example, summer vacations had lasted way longer when she was in school than they did at that moment. For some reason, I remembered this observation of hers and this is all to say... yes, time flies now, and yes, last Friday was definitely not seven days ago???? More like yesterday?

Anyway, here are the links for this weekend... hope you like them. Have a great one!

Weekend Reads #103

Saturday, October 5, 2019

Oh hello again! Had a brief disruption of the regular weekend reads program last week, but don't worry, dear reader, the Earth hasn't stopped spinning. :) Here's this week's edition, and I wish you a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.

Weekend Reads #102

Friday, September 20, 2019

Hi there, I'm back from Rome! What a short and sweet trip. Some of you might have seen Stories on my Instagram, and for the rest, I might come up with a similarly short and sweet blog post, though only after I finish another one that's been in making... (too many chores, too little time!) In the meantime, please check the links below, I hope you'll find some of them interesting. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Reads #101

Friday, September 13, 2019

I thought I would publish this one yesterday because I'm going on a vacation in two hours aaaah! But here I am still in my apartment, I pushed for a later bus that won't compromise our flight anyway, maybe lunch, but that's about it :) I'm flying to Rome tonight, and if you were around five years ago when I went for the first time, you might remember my awe. I cannot believe it's been five years since I first visited the most beautiful city in the world that also prompted me to set a goal of living there sometime before my 30th birthday. I guess that was the time I thought life ends after your 30th! Honestly, I wouldn't have minded trading a year in New Zealand for three months in Rome, though it would make going to Australia a bit more difficult. Anyway, I'm super excited, last time I was just as excited because I didn't know what to expect, this time I know that the beauty in the Apennine Peninsula is awaiting me, and I am over the moon. This is also one of the several examples of me going somewhere I have been before instead of discovering something new because I just love it so much! (Others would include London, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Oz.) My Italian is rusty but I know just enough to indulge in a long weekend of pasta, gelato, and sightseeing! See you next week!

Weekend Reads #100

Saturday, September 7, 2019

Oh wow. One hundred. A first-time reader would think I have been doing it for a little less than two years. The truth is, however, that my first Weekend Reads aired sometime in October 2014. That's ages ago! Yes, I know that maybe I should have been more consistent, but I know you forgive me because you know what it's like when life happens. And by the way, you're great. I might have stopped sharing links if people weren't super receptive. You like my Internet finds, and I love that! I love you, really. You might be few but you're great. And I'll leave you with the links now...

Weekend Reads #99

Saturday, August 31, 2019

Hello everyone,
I think we can all agree that we've had enough of summer, right?! (At least us people on the Northern hemisphere.) I mean, what's not to love about hot melting days in the city... :insert rolling eye emoji: In other news, yesterday I sit down to write the post on Sydney that I was supposed to do a year ago. Talk about me being a travel blogger. :) Hope to finish soon and bring you my view of one of the best cities in the world. In the meantime, I hope you'll like some of the links from this week's batch.

Weekend Reads #98

Friday, August 23, 2019

Hello there! Another Friday has come, and apparently, no matter how much I enjoy my job, weekends are when the magic happens! Some include elaborate plans, but others, like this one, is just for rest, catching up with my reads and the shows I'm watching. It's Trinkets from Netflix this week, and I'm surprised by how much I liked a high school series. It does get a little too much at times (there really was no need to put all the stereotypes about gay boys into one gay boy!), but overall, I enjoy the friendship of the three girls and JUST HOW CUTE Elodie is. Any new shows that should be on my radar? Lemme know! And here's what I thought you might find interesting this week...

Weekend Reads #97

Saturday, August 17, 2019

Hello everyone. I was told two days ago that I’m not the most reliable of people, which I took as an insult because to me “not the most reliable” equals to “unreliable”. (I was also told that it doesn’t.) Why am I saying this? Because I have so much content for Weekend Reads planned so that I only need to write Intro on Fridays, but alas, yesterday was reserved for a deep-ish cleaning of my apartment and I kind of forgot to do this. So, here we are… on a Saturday. How’s everyone? I had a  back massage just this morning and I feel like floating on a cloud. If you get the chance, book one for yourself! Anyway, here's what links I think you might find interesting....

Weekend Reads #96

Friday, August 2, 2019

Hello lovely people,

Well... I did say I couldn't promise Weekend Reads every Friday. So, this is not me cutting corners, but trying when I can and giving up when I have too much on my plate. I have been at my current job for four months already and I still cannot organize my time the way I want to, because I value sleep too much. Or, one could say, because I don't value organization much: if I did, maybe I'd find a way already? I mean, four months is a lot :) I've read every time management article there is over the course of, what, last five years or so, so if you have tips that do work (I especially welcome those that involve curse words and my own butt), send 'em over, thanks :)

ALSO, ginormous news in the world of me—at the moment I'm sipping on strong black coffee, Turkish as we call it in Serbia, because apparently my stomach has decided it didn't like milk anymore. I mean, okay, I don't like milk since the age of 3, but flat whites and lattes and instant coffee with milk are life! (People hate me for the instant coffee part, especially those with strong coffee culture, i.e. almost every nation I've ever lived with, but sorry not sorry.) Let's hope it's just a temporary stomach tantrum and everything will be back to normal soon.

Here are the links for this weekend, and I hope you have a great one!

Weekend Reads #95

Friday, June 21, 2019

Okay, so I gave the post the usual name and decided to start counting as if there was only one week between today and last December. :) How are you? What have you been up to? I have several pieces of news to report on: I am overwhelmed with work, both at work and side gigs, which is, well, overwhelming, but I'm also looking forward at reaping the fruits of my labor and secretly checking flight prices. On another note, I might start German classes in July! I did my placement test yesterday and I absolutely sucked, but oh well, you're not supposed to score 100% on a language placement test... or so I hope. Anyway, here are today's links and I hope you'll find something interesting!

Friday, June 14, 2019

Well, hello. Here I am again with my Weekend Reads. How long has it been, six months, a year? So long I am too embarrassed to even call myself a blogger anymore. But there’s something that doesn’t let me let this place go, and even though I might never be read by more than just a handful of people, it’s this handful that makes me happy.
