A Post About Love

Monday, December 23, 2013

*This post was stuck in my Draft folder, even though it didn't deserve it. It didn't deserve it at all! I hope I can make it up to it by publishing it now.*

You know that teenage period, when Mr. and Mrs. Know-It-All seem to bother you so much? Stop surfing, You spend too much time in front of the computerGo to the shop, Study something, Tidy your room, What kind of a grade is this, You don't do anything at all, You're just watching television, get out sometimes, But you went out yesterday, what does it matter it's Saturday, You don't study at all, you're so lazy, When did you come home last night, Turn that volume down, Is this even music, blah, blah...

Where Magic Happens: Lapland, Part 2

Friday, December 20, 2013

Maybe I sounded too excited in my previous post (check it out if you haven't). Maybe you thought there is not much magic around a zoo, Santa's Village and a lot of snow? Well, you might be right. I wouldn't agree, though. I'm easy to please. Recently a friend asked me if there was a place I didn't want to visit. Amongst those I hadn't visited so far? No, absolutely not. I want to see it all and experience it all. Life is short, I probably won't make it. But let's take one step at a time.
One of the things on my bucket list was seeing the northern lights. Aurora Borealis. It was something I wanted to see someday in my life, but up to few months ago I probably thought that would actually never happen to me.
But it did.

Where Magic Happens: Lapland, Part 1

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

The winter really has come since my last blog post. And can you imagine welcoming winter in a better place than Finnish Lapland?
I mentioned the trip of the year in some of my previous posts. This was it! It lasted less than a week, but I can certainly say it was the best trip of my life! I did some things I have never ever imagined I would do. And for the most of the time it really did feel like magic. Like living in a fairytale. Considering the fact that it is the very home of Santa and his little helpers – that's not strange at all!

30 Days, 4 Countries, 6 Cities

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

The title sounds as if it's some kind of a competition or a mission; but it has been pretty much my life from the end of September till the end of October. And I loved it!

I love Instagram. It captures all the lovely moments that make life. Friends, destinations, coffee. It captures joy.

That's why I love finding new inspiring people to follow. If you do know some cool Instagram profiles, please let me know. I'll gladly share my favorites with you in some of the following posts.

Clokwise: a book about shoes in German. Had to buy this at the Mauerpark market, even though I cannot read it!
Hope I would in spring; eating sandwich without a plate... so internationalstudent-ish; hipster panties!;
water for free in DM.

#lifestyleserbia

I am absolutely in love with the campaign Lifestyle Serbia by National Tourism Organisation of Serbia! Three girls joined to show a youthful, urban Serbia. Contemporary and fast, but never missing an opportunity to sit down and catch up with friends over coffee. Serbia of 21st century, but one that respects tradition. And shares it on Instagram. Serbia that loves sunshine, its rivers & mountains, and knows how to enjoy every moment. Serbia that knows – you only get one life

I hope you enjoy the photos of my beautiful country. See some more on the website or on Instagram under the hashtag #lifestyleserbia.

Edit: Unfortunately, after some time, the website was shut down.

SPB, Day 3: The Home of Happiness

Monday, October 28, 2013

Have you seen previous posts about Saint Petersburg? On our first day we were feeling the excitement of a discovery, on the second one we wandered through museums and cathedrals. Our third and the last day in SPB was relaxed and really nice, because we didn't have any organized trips and we already knew the center so we could just enjoy it without any rush or fuss. Plus, we had a great weather, and I don't know if it's just me, or everyone seems to be happier when the sun shines?!

SPB, Day 2: A Little Bit of Culture

Friday, October 25, 2013

As this blog is all about sharing nice things, I'll kindly ask you to click here and listen as you watch the photos.

This is The Nutcracker, ballet by P.I. Tchaikovsky, which I saw on this second day in Saint Petersburg - also the very first ballet I have ever seen! When we booked the Saint Petersburg trip, it was announced there was a possibility to watch ballet show there. Well, one doesn't simply go to Russia and miss this, right? I'm so glad I did this - now I know I like ballet. :)

SPB, Day 1: Wires And More Wires

Sorry for so many photos and sorry for the extended use of words "beauty" and "beautiful"!

It's been more than a week since I'm back from this trip, and I finally stole some time from myself to publish a new post.

A Quick Hello

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to apologize for not posting my Saint Petersburg adventures so far - I've been really busy, but I keep on struggling with numerous photos and I hope I will publish the post (or posts!) during the next week!

Anyway, in the photo above you can see what happened since my last post. Yep. It's mid-October, and I'm not joking. Also:

Living in the Land of Santa

Thursday, October 10, 2013

If you know me personally and after I had told you I was moving to Finland you didn't ask "Oh, you're going to Santa's, aren't you?", then what's wrong with you?

Just joking, but this was basically everyone's reaction. And that's what most people from Serbia know about Finland: cold. North. Far away. Santa. Reindeer.

To the Baltics

Monday, October 7, 2013

If you've read my last post, you probably noticed that I referred to Helsinki as only a part of my moving weekend. Well, yes - that was because on Sunday we went to Tallinn. :) It was completely out of the blue - the night before we were chatting and having tea at Dušica's, and then a friend of hers contacted her on Facebook, telling her that he had moved to Tallinn. And this is how the story went on:
Me: "I was thinking of visiting Tallinn when I move to Joensuu."
Dušica: "Would you like to do it tomorrow?"
Me: "Tomorrow?!"
Dušica: "Well, sure. It only takes two hours by the ferry and it's not at all that expensive."
Me: "Why not! Let's go!"

Helsinki, Finland: Moving to Another Country Can Be Fun!

Saturday, October 5, 2013

I've never thought I would have said the thing from the title, but it can! Luckily for me, I didn't go from Berlin to Joensuu (my current home in Finland) directly, but had a layover in Helsinki at a friend's. As one of my fellow EMCL students said: "You have friends everywhere!" Yes I do, and I am most likely to write a post once on this wonderful science center in Serbia where I met most of them, and most of my bestest friends in the world!

Berlin vol. 2

Thursday, October 3, 2013

Hello,
The past week was a huge mess so that's why I'm running late. But when I say mess here, I mean it in a good way. :) We had an exam back in Potsdam, then there was my birthday, then I had to pack as this first month in Germany was over, and say goodbye to all my Berlin friends, then I had a super-duper weekend about which I'm yet to show & tell, and finally I moved to a completely empty room in Finland and had to buy furniture and other stuff - which I managed to do, and now I live in a really neat place.

Turning 25

Being a linguist surrounded by linguists has its perks.

This is one of the most awesome birthday cards ever!!!

It's got birthday wishes in 11 languages and a syntactic tree.

I had an amazing time last night. They even sang "happy birthday" in a bar at midnight. Thank you, my EMCL crew, and thank you Proko :)

Rainy Tidbits of Potsdam, Germany

Monday, September 23, 2013

We had a guided Potsdam tour today. Our guide was a really cool and funny lady and the two hours flew so fast. With the photos I took I'm not as satisfied, though. (Of course, please don't laugh at my photos, you my friends who try to do artsy photography - you know who you are!) I hate taking pictures in cloudy weather, because the lighting is so bad. However, despite the weather and the fact that it is so small and it seems to me that nothing ever happens here, Potsdam is - I must admit - a beautiful town.

First Impressions: Berlin

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Ok, the camera is here (hooray!) and it's the prettiest little pink baby ever, but I still owe you some snapshots I took with my phone. I didn't manage to update this blog as regularly as I thought I would, because I had to meet a lot of friends who either live in Berlin or have just been travelling so this was their stop. All of them are from Serbia and actually I had a more lively social life in Berlin this month than in my hometown for ages! (I had been living there for the last six months before moving to Germany and had only two friends there, and that is so different from what I was used to in Belgrade, where I had studied. And guess what, I met some really cool people on my very last day in my hometown!)

Anyway, Berlin. I'm not yet sure what I think of the city. I will let myself explore it for few more days before I move to Finland, and then make the final decision. Maybe not even then. I'm coming back here in March, so time will tell. :)

First Impressions: Potsdam, Germany

Saturday, September 21, 2013

I don’t have a camera…! I certainly didn't want to begin blogging with this sentence, but hey, a girl cannot control everything. Well, I do have one that I got for my 17th birthday (and that was quite a long time ago), but it’s really old and even my phone camera is better, and that’s why I didn’t want to bring it along. So I’m buying a new camera as soon as I get my scholarship, which should happen soon, and until then I’m going to serve you some Instagram snaps I took since I moved. (If you follow me on Instagram, sorry for doubling, but I inserted more detailed captions here ;))
