Late, late, late: Instagram Sept & Oct

Thursday, November 27, 2014

I feel like the White Rabbit from Alice in the Wonderland: Oh my god, oh my god, I'm so late! I usually post Instagram posts at the beginning of the (odd) month, but this month I just didn't feel... inspired. I don't know. I kinda neglected this lil' online place of mine. Well, soon enough it will be time for another Instagram update, so I better deliver this one! So, September and October. September seems like ages ago. Which is a pitty, because it almost feels like a previous life. And it was the coolest.

Before I start with the photos, I just want to wish a happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans who stop by! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a wonderful dinner. Have I told you that I had a Thanksgiving dinner two weeks ago, hosted by our American teacher? It was that early because it was the date everyone could make it, and it was my first Thanksgiving ever. I had no idea traditional American food was SO FREAKIN GOOD. I was so full. That turkey, and the sweet potatoes, and the beetroot and apple salad, and the stuffing, and the gravy, and I'm just craving that right now!! What a night.

At the beginning of September, I got up early one day and went to Rostock, a town by the sea, two hours away from Berlin. It was a lovely day trip, and I wrote more about it here.

And I enjoyed Berlin, of course. When I look back at my life in Finland and Germany, I don't think I ever thought it was temporary. I mean, of course I did know it was, but I just didn't feel that way. But now, even though Holland is a pretty little gem, I feel it's just something I need to go through before going back where I belong. P.S. Here's a post on Friedrichshein, district with the graffiti, and here's one on this amazing rooftop bar.

And then - there it was. The country I traveled in September, and the one that made me fall in love so so much. You know it already - Italy. Photos below, clockwise: Pompeii ruins; Positano, a cute little town on the Amalfi coast; and the most wonderful city in the world, glorious, amazing, beautiful Rome. Yeah, I know I owe you posts about Rome. Will write them eventually. It's just that, I mentioned it, you don't dare to write about the perfection. You just don't.

More of Rome. The two bottom photos are from Trastevere. That's like the tastiest quarter in the world. By the way, the postcard with a sleeping cat in front of the Colosseum never reached its destination, and I don't think I was ever so disappointed in posts before. But I'll go to Rome again and send it again, Hannah. :)

Florence, lovely Florence! You might have seen my post on things to do in Florence, and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?! :) Clockwise: Ponte Vecchio, view over the city and Il Duomo from the tower of the Palazzo Vecchio, view over the city from Piazzale Michelangelo, view over Piazza della Repubblica from a rooftop restaurant. As you can see, I have a thing for being somewhere up.

Venice! Canals, carnival masks, lovely Santa Maria della Salute church, the usual stuff. You might want to see more details in my post on things to do in Venice, or in this photo diary.

Around Venice. We stayed in Lido (an island close to the city), and the gloomy seaside photo is from there. If I remember correctly, it's not even B&W, it was just this cloudy! The colorful photo is from Burano island - trust me, that is the cutest place I have ever been to, possibly the cutest place in Europe, and I cannot wait to show it to you guys! The selfie is here because of the hair - it was very humid those days, and I must admit I love humidity because it makes my hair curly - or at least curlier than usually, and I love curls! The last one is from Murano island. Yep, that's the one known for the glass, but I wasn't so thrilled by the island itself, I must admit. Burano took my heart!

More Italy. (One can never have enough of Italy.) Naples (post here, click click), Rome, Rome, Siena.

And some more Italy! I wrote a post I believe to be one of the most useful here ever - the one on packing (relatively) light. Florence. And Milan. My probably first ever selfie in public, in front of the gorgeous Cathedral, but hey, it was my birthday. I wouldn't have done it otherwise. :p

And then I went back. Not saying back home, because in less than 48 hours after my plane had landed in Berlin, I moved to the Netherlands. The land of rain, canals, clouds, bicycles, more rain, stroopwafels (that is one of the best sweets ever), adorable architecture, and did I mention rain? Anyway, I must admit that after having spent September nights in ten different beds and one extremely uncomfortable airport bench, it felt good to just... stay in. And enjoy the perks of a routine. Like a breakfast made by me.

And so went October. Coffee, macarons, bicycle rides to uni. I got two souvenirs from two faraway places: Nepal and Canada! A friend who had moved to Canada came to Groningen to visit her boyfriend and told me very seriously: "Come to Montreal. You need to travel outside Europe." I do! But let's just stick around for a little while. There's still so much in Europe I haven't seen. And truth be told, I love (love, love, love, adore!) this old continent. The world can wait. ;)

How was your life lately, friends? Are you having more fun than I am, or are you appreciating the routine as well? I'd love to hear!

Love, Tihana

    1. Haha, I think you actually started following me recently. Thanks for the support! I love my blog but sometimes it just feels... you know, like I SHOULD blog. Even when I just want to sleep and watch TV series. And I don't want to make an obligation out of a hobby and something I love doing. Bloggers are humans too :)
