Five years ago I was copy editing the Serbian edition of the book Un Amico Italiano: Eat, Pray, Love in Rome, and I remember telling myself I would love to use it as a tour guide once I travel to Rome. Of course, a novel is hardly a good guide, no matter how well written. A while after, when I actually did find myself in Rome, I had to go through that novel again and write down the points it had recommended. Maybe I even missed something.
Blog posts by travel bloggers are another example of guides made with good intentions but that are not as useful as their creators intended them to be. Say you found a great post on a city you’d like to visit, and loved it so much you really wanted to use it as a guide. But that would make you either spend your data once you reach your destination—and there’s a possibility of you not having the data plan at all—or having to copy and paste the blog somewhere offline. If only there was an app for that…
…well, there is! GPSMyCity turns travel blog posts into GPS-guided travel apps.
Never heard of it? Don’t worry, it’s a relatively new concept. Take a travel article with what-to-do’s and what-to-see’s and imagine it has GPS coordinates embedded in it, together with a map of the route described in the article. That’s basically it! A tour guide you just found on someone’s blog and loved, but a level up. What’s crucial about these is that you can download them and then use them offline, and the app—the article—and the map will still be fully operable.
You can choose between thousands of guides available at GPSMyCity. Every guide is an app, and you can download as many apps as you want free of charge. Once the article is on your phone, you can use it offline and let it guide you. So no chasing wi-fi like crazy :) However, if you want the article to be a GPS-guided article, you can have it if you opt for an upgrade, that costs $1.99. Just so you make sure you don’t get lost and know exactly where you’re going! :)
I have teamed up with GPSMyCity so apart from having my article about Pecs, Hungary, turned into an app, we will be offering a free upgrade for this app during the next week. So, to see how it works, download the GPS-guided article at What to Do and See in Pecs, Hungary for free! By the way, the app is available both at iTunes and Google Play Store. However, the giveaway, meaning the free upgrade, is only valid for iOS. Trust me, I'd have it other way, as I myself am an Android user. But that's it for now :( Anyway, whichever phone you have, you'll be able to at least download the basic guide, so go for it!
I’d love to hear your experiences with this travel tool! Download my travel guided app and let me know what you think. Remember, if you're an iPhone owner, during the next week you will be able to upgrade my Pecs guide for free!
Talk to you soon.

Whenever someone buys an upgrade to the app made out of my Pecs post, I will receive a small commission. However, all opinions are my own and I would really recommend using GPSMyCity apps.
