What You Can Expect Here in 2k16 and Beyond

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Apart from my regular (okay... semi-regular) Weekend Reads, in more than two years of running Wandering Polka Dot I think I have never actually written a "catching-up" post. You know, the one where people just sit down and write whatever comes to their mind, intertwined with what and how they've been doing recently. I think you need to acquire a certain following of people that are genuinely interested in the blogger... and I never felt I could do that. Though I do a mini happy dance every time I get a comment and love you for that!!

Anyway, because I figured an average new reader could get quite confused when landing on my blog, I thought I could do one of those posts just to let you know what you can expect on this blog. Its primary focus had always been traveling, but that was back in 2014 when I was super relaxed with my money and spent it on travel almost exclusively: Finnish countryside, Helsinki, Norway, Brussels, Paris, Bavaria, Warsaw, three weeks of roaming throughout Italy, Amsterdam, multiple trips back home to Serbia.... And then came 2015 and a harsh realization that I had saved nothing, so I devoted the year to exactly that: saving. I did manage to go to Amsterdam a few times, to a town in Hungary and London, but that was it. 2016 doesn't look promising either: I would love love love to travel, but as I mentioned already, my income has shrunk considerably so I have to be super smart about it. OK, honestly, I would love to squeeze a short trip to Amsterdam in this year - because it's super pretty and I'm in love with it; another one to London, because it's the best city ever; Paris, because I owe it a second chance; New York, because it's a dream; Australia and New Zealand, because I'm not really a fan of European winter. How I could do all that, though, is an entirely different question. And I honestly have no idea.

So if a travel blog kind of stops being a travel blog (I say kinda because I still have loads of posts to show you, and some of them embarrass me because they're so old) because the blogger is poor, what happens next?

I fear that the label "lifestyle blog" is a bit pretentious, but heck, that's what's going to happen. Or continue to happen, if you please. I did so many new things last year, some of which were a success and some were failure, that I want to tell you about. I want to share the good things I've come to find out, warn you of my mistakes and inspire you to do something yourself. In other words, you might and will find articles on

  • traveling
  • minimalism
  • decluttering
  • running
  • saving money
  • expat life
  • becoming a former expat (if all goes according to the plan!)
  • Berlin
  • .
  • .

...with a dash of fashion and all things nice I've managed to incorporate in the blog anyway, like this or this or this.

So it won't really change. Or at least I don't feel it would. I feel it will improve.

If you don't find it too interesting, I would first and foremost like to thank you for being here in the first place, because it really means so much to me. It does! As I said in the About page, out of all the places online you've chosen this one and it's more than amazing. If you do decide, though, to bear with me and stop by occasionally to see what I'm up to, thanks for that, too! I'll work hard on my New Year's resolution about not neglecting my online home and coming up with good content no matter how lazy or uninspired I feel.

(And can a person really feel uninspired when there is Internet??)

If there's anything you would like to see me write about, now is the good moment to share. :) I'll also appreciate any other comment you have about what you've just read. Because really, we wouldn't write if we weren't expecting hoping someone would read this.

I'm all ears!

P.S. Bloglovin is my absolute favorite platform for following blogs so I really advocate using it - if you haven't, give it a try. You can follow this blog here and it's the best way to stay in the loop, in case I forget to post about a recent blog post on Facebook and Twitter. ;)
