Can You Be Happy for 100 Days in a Row?

Monday, February 17, 2014

I once read that tomorrow was "a mystical land where 99% of all human productivity, motivation and achievement is stored".

Actually, I'd say it is Monday. And chances are that you know it from your own experience.

Apart from New Year's, Monday is the time when we start dieting, quit smoking, start working out, start being hard working and study regularly...
...or more accurately, that's what we think before Monday.
And then it turns out it's just a regular day. Starting with coffee and a chocolate croissant straight from the bakery, spending limitless time on Facebook, smoking too much, and skipping the gym one more time.

Been there, done that. A thousand times.

But I tried challenging myself one last time. I saw this on Twitter and thought to myself: Why not?! Maybe it's exactly the thing I need right now. Maybe not, but I think it's worth trying.

This Monday I'll try to be happy. And keep the happiness for 100 days

What is this all about? Well, it's #100happydays challenge. Those who participate should submit a picture of something that makes them happy on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, using the #100happydays hasthag. It's quite simple. But on the other hand... is it? They/we should do it every day. For 100 days! As they say on the website: It can be anything from a meet-up with a friend to a very tasty cake in the nearby coffee place, from a feeling of being at home after a hard day to a favor you did to a stranger.

I love the idea. After all, I do agree that happiness is small things. But am I able to see it on a daily basis, 100 days in a row? Am I able to stick with happiness even on a bad day? Am I able not to get bored with happiness? Let's see!

Where does this idea come from?

We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, is the base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being.
71% of people tried to complete this challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason. These people simply did not have time to be happy. Do you?

Interested? Then join! Choose your favorite platform and let's get happy! If you don't want to share publicly, you could invent your own personal hashtag, or even email your pictures to the website authors.

To be quite honest with you, I am afraid that I'll be one of the 71% people who failed. But that's why it's called a challenge, right?

According to the authors of the website, we can hope for some really nice things, as people successfully completing the challenge claimed to:
 - Start noticing what makes them happy every day;
 - Be in a better mood every day;
 - Start receiving more compliments from other people;
 - Realize how lucky they are to have the life they have;
 - Become more optimistic;
 - Fall in love during the challenge.

(Thank you very much, but I'd skip falling in love. The rest seems fine, though.)

I chose Instagram to be my temple of happiness. So, follow me here if you haven't already to check whether I'm up to this or not, or check the #100happydays hashtag on any social network, and don't forget to join and spread happiness! We could all use some. And no, even though my challenge starts today, I still don't know what my today's dose of happiness is. The day has just started :)

XO,

Tihana
